Blade & Soul is a breathtakingly beautiful (even after 3 years) MMORPG that is being altered for language and culture to be sold in the US (and Canada I’m assuming). This game has a reputation for four things: skimpy outfits, fantastic mobility, intense PVP, and popularity in Korea. Last I read, Blade & Soul actually has more active players at peak times in Korea than League of Legends. That is kind of huge.

I wasn’t too excited about Blade & Soul until recently when my gaming guild (a hardcore PVP guild) told me they were going to play Blade & Soul upon its release in the US. After that I did a deep-dive into the game and actually purchased a founder’s pack.
A founder’s pack is a relatively new offering game developers are making to drive extra revenue. Prior to a game releasing, customers can become “backers” which rewards them with extra cosmetic digital loot when the game releases. For free to play games like Blade & Soul, these packages usually include some of the digital currency that will be used to buy outfits and other cosmetic character rewards too.
Set to release in early 2016 by NCSOFT, I’m expecting a relatively smooth launch. NCSOFT is an old hat at this sort of thing by now. For the time being, this game will probably be the stomping ground for many serious MMO PVP guilds before Crowfall (hype article coming soon) is released. For people into combat (both PVP and PVE), Blade & Soul includes a rich, skill-based fighting system that is very satisfying for those who master it. This skill-based approach is part of what has made the game so popular among PVPers and in Korea in general.
Even for people who are not into PVP, the game looks like a lot of fun. Who doesn’t want to play as an animal person (Lyn) summoner with a magical cat friend?
The NCSOFT founder’s packs, which include early access (being able to play the game early) are available for 24.99 (initiate pack), 74.99 (disciple pack) , and 124.99 (master pack). These can be found here: founders packs. I encourage everyone reading this review who is into MMOs or RPGs to check out more information on this game.
